I remember one day thinking through our budget with concern then changing perspective from hearing a country song. It was giving thanks for a simple life with some money in a coffee can! We have a family song "The blues make you feel so good", and many of the children's songs (or Stevie Wonder) that Wade dances to will bring an instant smile to my face. But so often we need a deeper, lasting joy. I have a playlist called "Weekday Joy", and below I listed the hymns (from 1675 and later) that I love to hear, sing, and even read.
“Abide with me” [Indelible Grace version especially] is a beautiful prayer: “When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless abide with me.”
“Great is Thy Faithfulness” [32] “blessings all mine with 10,000 beside”
“Hallelujah, Praise Jehovah, O my Soul” (from Ps. 146) [57] “Happy is the man that chooses Jacob’s God to be his aid.”
“Whate’er my God Ordains is Right” [108] “He holds me that I shall not fall”
“All the Way My Savior Leads Me” [605] “Gushing from the rock before me, lo, a spring of joy I see!”
“My Anchor Holds” [617] “I can feel the anchor fast as I meet each sudden blast”
“More Love to Thee, O Christ” [649] “Once earthly joy I craved, sought peace and rest; now Thee alone I seek; give what is best...”
“Jesus, Priceless Treasure” [656] “In Thine arms I rest me; Foes...cannot reach me here.”
